One Shirt - 6 Ways to Wear it

While the Target by me seemed to get the worst of the Altuzarra for Target pieces, there are quite a few of cute and well made pieces it turns out. One of the items that I tried on in store was the Ruby Hill Sheer Peasant Blouse. I didn't buy it that first day, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. I ended up going back and grabbing it, and it is the one item I keep reaching for in the last few weeks. If I could, I would wear it more than once each week. I love it that much. And for a blouse that doesn't seem like it would be versatile, it seems to go with a lot of pieces I already own.

Date Night

It goes great with print. Here it is paired with the python skirt and booties from the Altuzarra for Target Collection. Tuck it in and wear it with a belt around the waist to accentuate your figure.

Wear it with a leather mini and leopard heels. It will look great tucked in or left out. I love wearing a loose billowy shirt with a tight mini skirt. The contrast gives just enough sexy without being over the top.

Work Wear

Wear it under a suit for a touch of color. Take the jacket off after work and it'll still look great.

Casual
Paired with ripped jeans and Tom's or sneakers it's perfect for hanging out or running errands.
Paired with some over the knee boots, low heeled or high and it gives off a boho/city vibe.

Out with the Girls

My favorite way to wear it surprisingly is in a monochromatic outfit. Paired with a pair of pants in the same shade. Normally I would not be so bold, but I think this shirt is just dark enough that it works. I paired it with red heels that are the same color as the embroidery. This is my favorite look!

I'm so glad I went back and bought this blouse. It seems like the one item I have absolutely zero interest in from these collaborations, is the one I end up loving the most. This top is still available online and I still see it in Target stores. It's worth checking out!

Elie Tahari for Kohls - A View From the Fitting Room Review

It's officially the start of Designer Collaboration Season! WAHOO! Right after Fashion Week each season the collabs go into full swing. I'm still oohing and aaahing over the amazing Altuzarra for Target pieces that I loved and crying over the ones that failed. But no rest for the weary, Elie Tahari for Kohl's is here! And so isn't the Eva Mendes for NY & Company and Scandal for Limited! All in one week! I don't have a NY&Co or Limited near me, so unfortunately (Or fortunately - depending on how you look at it), I won't be reviewing those. As usual, I am not a huge Kohl's fan. I find something in there every so often, but I always go check out the collaborations. I usually leave with 1 piece at most. Peter Som changed that, when there were a lot of well made pieces that I loved. I thought maybe it was a fluke. Now I think, either Kohl's stepped up their game or as a 40 yr old mom, I finally hit the Kohl's demographic. (Please oh please let it be the first one!) But my face below says it all!

Each Designer Collaboration for Kohl's is part of their DesignNation initiative. They give each designer a location for the collection's inspiration. For Elie Tahari, Kohl's chose New York. When you think New York Fashion, you think lot's of black on black. This collection delivered. That meant I had to play around with the exposure just to get a decent read on the prints. I have to apologize now for the not so great prints. We went on a quick lunch time trip to check out the collaboration pieces and couldn't focus on picture quality as much as we wanted to.

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Mixed-Media Sheath Dress - $84.00

This dress was so cute! It had a lined mesh inset at the top, zippers on the bottom and it was just amazingly comfortable and very well made. Unfortunately it was a little to big on me. I am holding it in for the photo's sake. And unfortunately, even though we were at Kohl's just hours after they opened, all the smaller sizes in most of the pieces were gone! I did a quick scan at their kiosk and the other Kohl's by me was also already sold out of most of the smaller sizes. Looks like this collection is a hit! This dress can go from work to casual wear to play. If I find it in my size, I will be grabbing it!

Side note, the mesh inset goes all the way down the front and if you open the little flaps, there is NO lining! Eeep! Fortunately you would have to open the flaps by hand like I'm doing, but still for some of you, this might be leaving too much to chance, so I thought I would mention it, in case you decide to order it online.

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Mock-Layer Sweater - $64.00

This comes in a blue and black version and a black and grey version and a creme colored version. The lighter one has the Empire State Building printed on it. Maybe it's just me, but I am not a fan of anything that takes a location so literal. I am not the type of person who would generally go for that touristy type item, and that's what these types of things feel like to me. Add to that, I am also not a fan of shirts and sweaters in one. I really liked how these fit, but the fact that they were one piece kind of bugged me. I would rather buy the shirt and then the sweater separately. Maybe it's just me though. Oh and the shirt piece on these is completely see through, which meant you could see my belly button. No thanks! I past that stage in my life. This would be cute with high waist pants or on a younger girl. But while it's cute and well made, it just isn't my style. And hey, that's OK.

The scuba leggings are amazing. They are like spanx meets memory foam! The scuba means neoprene like. Kohl's really pulled it off really well however. I love the mesh insets on this. I came home with these, but I really would have liked to try a size up to see if they would fit a but higher on my waist, unfortunately they are sold out all around me. Boo for whoever hit Kohl's before me and bought up all the cute pieces in my size!

A shirt with an NYC backdrop including taxi's. Hmmm... based on what I said above, you know how I feel. But my girl Pam really liked it. And I have to admit, it was cute. The sleeves and back are completely see thru. While Pam liked it, she liked a different shirt better, so she passed on this one.

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Textured Cardigan Sweater - $88.00

I had to really adjust the exposure so you could see the detail on this sweater. This one was really cute. A little on the thinner side and perfect for layering over light pieces. I have it layered over the sweater tunic, and so it is a little bulky here. But this was a really nice piece. Not something I need in my wardrobe right now, so I went ahead and passed on this sweater. But if you need something light this is perfect.

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Scuba Fit & Flare Dress - $70.00

And by Scuba, they mean Neoprene like! Not kidding! That made this dress so soft and so comfortable! It is like wearing the thinnest memory foam turned into a cute dress. But it wasn't tacky or shiny, it was just really nice and very slimming and remarkably versatile.

Just look at the close up details. I really loved this dress. But again, I really don't need another black dress. (Yeah I said it!) But man, I don't know that I'm going to be able to resist this one for long.

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Peplum-Hem Crepe Top - $48.00

I admit, I didn't even grab this one to try on initially. Then I saw Pam in it and I was like, WOAH! What is that shirt? I NEED that! So I quickly ran out and grabbed it. OMG! YAAASSS! It is so cute! I don't know what it is about this shirt, but I knew I had to have it!

I absolutely love the neckline and shoulder area of this shirt. I'm still not exactly sure how i'm going to wear it though. So if I don't figure that out soon, it will most likely go back. I need to play around and make sure I can get use out of the shirt.

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Faux-Suede Motorcycle Jacket - $100.00

I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this jacket. It is a thin faux suede material, but extremely well made. I thought it was navy and was ready to bring it home with me. I just knew I needed it to add to my jacket collection. But lo and behold it is black, so I had to draw the line and after MUCH thought and walking around, I had to put it back. I already have several black jackets and I really can't justify another one right now. But OMG! If I had an unlimited budget and a room for a closet, this would sooo be mine!

Elie Tahari for DesigNation Georgette Zipper-Front Blouse - $58.00

Can you tell I love this blouse? For some reason, I ended up not buying it. I don't know why, because it is gorgeous. I imagine wearing it with black jeans and some booties. But I think maybe it was too jacket like? I don't know, something stopped me from grabbing it. And believe me, this one is so much cuter in person. The sleeves on this one are sheer, but the back isn't. The zipper can go as high or low as you want.

The midi skirt was really cute too. It felt like I wasn't wearing anything. It is a very thin sweater material. If you are looking for a cute skirt that is super comfy, this is the one!

There are so many items online that I wanted to try in the store. Of course as usual in my area, our store didn't get any of those items. WHY?!! I wish the stores would get at least 1 of each size for every piece when they do these collaborations. Sometimes seeing it in store is the push I need to order it online. I really wanted to see the mixed media leggings, mixed media jumpsuit, Mixed Media Sheath Body Con Dress and the open work chenille sweater. Maybe I will come across these pieces. But if not, I think I'll be fine resisting.

I was really impressed with the quality of this collection overall. I wish there were more pieces that I could check out in person, but I was not disappointed in what I did see. Also worth mentioning, these pieces launched at 25% off which is pretty typical for Kohl's collaborations. If you have a Kohl's charge card, you can save an additional 30% on top of the 25% off. If you don't have a Kohl's charge, then you can get 15% off by signing up for Kohl's texts or emails or using code SEPTYES15 online.

Did you go check out this collection? What did you grab?

DIY Wristlet - Take 1

I woke up Sunday morning from a dream that I made my own wristlet. For those of you that sew or are avid DIYers, making your own wristlet is probably child's play. But for me, the novice sewer, this would definitely be a challenge. I mean I made Halloween costumes good enough to last a day, with very little details when the girls were little and most recently I made some curtains, but a small wristlet? With a zipper? Nope, never. But that didn't stop me, since I woke up before anyone else, I took to paper and planned out what I would want in a wristlet and then took off to JoAnn's when it opened.

Using my drawings, I figured out what I would need cut and how. I created my pattern and set off cutting my pieces. So far so good. Measurements all turned out well. Success!

Well maybe not so fast. I chose a lining (Maybe it's called bating?) that was a little too stiff which made sewing a little more difficult. Not a good thing when you're a novice and had to add a zipper for the first time ever. I did however buy enough fabric that I can try this again next weekend. I'm determined to get it right.

You can see the fabric is being weighed down by the zipper. Oh the zipper! First off, I bought one that is too big! Of course, I had no clue that you had to get a specific zipper size! I thought you just cut it to size. Now I know. But the overall design is on target. I just need to fine tune the sewing skills.

Inside, I made a separator pocket so I can put my phone on one side and everything else on the other.

Opposite the separator, I sewed in a little size pocket and a lipstick pocket. This came out remarkably well. I was impressed. I originally wanted to put a few card slots, but I'm not there yet.

On the backside of the wristlet, I put a pocket on the outside. Sometimes, I just want my phone out where I can easily grab it. I like the idea of a small wristlet with an inside and outside pocket.

I want to work on this a little more, but 1. I need some advice/tips. If you have them, I would love to hear your suggestions on how I can try this again and be a bit more successful. or 2. If anyone is a sewing wizard, come on over and make this for me! :)

Urban Decay Subversion Primer and Perversion Mascara Review

I received a sample of Urban Decay Perversion in my August Ipsy bag and was really excited to try it out. I mean this mascara really promises quite a bit, so I was dying to find out if it delivered. Urban Decay says this ulta-creamy lengthening and volumizing mascara is buildable and it won't clump or become brittle. Really now?

Oh and they also say that it "contains Hairdensyl, a complex blend of proteins and amino acids - including marine glycogen, known to stimulate lash growth. Honey extract provides deep nourishment, sea idolized elastic stimulated the hair follicle, and marine collagen protects." Phew that's a lot of promises! I was excited to see how it performs.

I've been using the sample since it arrived and really like the formula, staying power and the intensity of the black. I feel like it more than doubles the appearance of the length of my lashes. It really is creamy and looks it on my lashes. I even left it on overnight and reapplied more the next day to see if the claims that you can do that are true. And while I would prefer to clean off the mascara and re-apply a fresh coat, it was fine, just felt a little heavy for my liking. As far as extra growth, I haven't really noticed a difference, but I'm OK with that. I liked it enough to buy a full size bottle.

Urban Decay Subversion Primer, Perversion Mascara

Right now you can get Perversion with a deluxe size sample of the Subversion Lash Primer included on Urban Decay's website, and at Sephora and Ulta. It retails for $22.

Here are my lashes before applying any mascara. Excuse the appearance of the eye area. I've been sick with sinuses for about 2 weeks now, and I am just puffy and red. :( I tried to wait to feel better, but it is just taking forever.

Urban Decay Subversion Primer

Urban Decay's Subversion Lash Primer retails for $20 for a full size tube. It looks like any other lash primer and seems to work the same. Lash primers condition your lashes and help get every little lash making it easier to apply your mascara. This is no different. The brush is nice and thick and really grabs your lashes. Although I find that I have to maneuver a bit to get those hard to reach lashes.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Subversion applies white, but dries fairly clear. I usually apply the primer and wait until it is mostly clear before applying mascara. I will say that I generally reserve a lash primer for when I am going out at night. I just don't have it in me for every day wear. But it's always nice to have some on hand.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

The brush on the mascara is pretty thick and the bristles are a bit twisted. It really does "grab" my lashes. Again, I find I have to maneuver a little bit to get to the hard to reach lashes, but the end result is worth it. I really like the feel of the brush.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

This is one coat of the Perversion mascara over one coat of the Subversion primer. I absolutely love the end result! I will say it does feel a little heavy until it dries, but once it's dry, I forget I'm even wearing it. It is also fairly easy to remove with makeup remover. It lasts all day, and I haven't noticed any flaking. I haven't layered it yet, but I may the next time I have a hot date night with the hubs.

Urban Decay Subversion Primer, Perversion Mascara

Overall, I am really loving my results with this mascara and will happily wear it every day... of course that is, until another mascara catches my eye. (See what I did there?)

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Lippies Review

The last thing I need is another lipstick, especially another red one. But when I walked into Sephora intending to pick up Urban Decay's Perversion Mascara that I reviewed last week, I just couldn't resist their Pulp Fiction Revolution Lipstick and 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil in Mrs Mia Wallace. (I'm so easy when it comes to makeup!)

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil, Pulp Fiction, Mrs Mia Wallace

Both the lipstick and pencil are an amazing red, with just a hint of brick. It doesn't have a heavy blue/brick undertone to it, but it enhances the redness just perfectly. I'm already a big fan of the both the 24/7 Glide On pencil and Revolution Lipstick, so I just couldn't resist this new shade.

The swatch on the top is the 24/7 Glide on Pencil and the bottom is a swatch of the lipstick. I had trouble getting it off my skin, even with makeup remover. I put it on as soon as I got in the car and it wore all night, even through a stint in my friends hot tub!

This red is perfect for Fall. It has just the right amount of darkness to make it a just right for the Fall transition, without losing it's red quality. (Not that we're even close to Fall here in FL!)

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil, Pulp Fiction, Mrs Mia Wallace
Like I said, I couldn't wait to put it on! I'm like a kid with candy when I buy a new lipstick. I take whatever i'm wearing off and put the new one on.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil, Pulp Fiction, Mrs Mia Wallace

I mean, come on! It's perfect! And I swear it makes my teeth look whiter! As for the flawless skin - do not be fooled, my friends. I airbrushed it just a tad. (Really just a tad) I just couldn't let you see the redness around my eyes and nose from being sick. But here I don't look sick, do I? No I don't! Why? Because I airbrushed the photo! I am not above a little airbrushing, I admit it. But just to be fair, because now I know you all want to see the original, Fine, twist my arm... Here is the original.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil, Pulp Fiction, Mrs Mia Wallace

Well it doesn't look so bad here either. But that's probably because I have liquid and powder foundation on and concealer over all the red areas. Don't think I'm showing you a no makeup look here too! Maybe one day, just not today. Talk about digressing from the original post. I mean I suppose I could have just used the non airbrushed photo, but it makes me happy. So why not a little airbrushing if it makes me happy? At least I'm honest about it. Don't judge! :)

Just Fab Review

I learned about Just Fab a LONG time ago, but never tried it out. Shoes for $39.95 a pair just screams "Cheap, poorly made" shoes. I mean, I have a thing for shoes, and don't get me wrong, I have shoes from Payless and Target in my closet. But I am super picky about my shoes, if I am buying cheap shoes, they need to look good. And I have learned the hard way when buying online, that you will not always find the winner. Not to mention, if I am buying shoes online, I absolutely, positively have to know the brand and my size. I don't have time for the hassle of returns.

Just Fab Ellis Review

But last week, while looking for a pair of shoes, I came across a totally adorable pair of booties. They were part of the Just Fab LUXE line. These are priced higher than the $39.95 shoes, and if you subscribe to their monthly VIP program, you get a deeper discount. The VIP program charges you $39.95 each month that you can apply to a purchase on their site. But you can skip as many months as you want and call and cancel anytime. I am not impressed when a company makes me call to cancel. This was a bit of a turn off. But then I thought, you know what, the reviews I seem to find, didn't seem to tell me much about the quality. Now I was on a mission.  So for the sake of research, I signed up for their monthly VIP program. I ordered a pair of booties and then skipped a month. This way I could receive these and decide what I wanted to do from there.

Just Fab Ellis Review

The booties I ordered arrived packaged in a nice sturdy shoe box inside another box. They were wrapped well to prevent the booties from rubbing against each other. So far I am impressed.

Just Fab Ellis Review

I purchased these booties called Ellis. I will say for the price ($54.95 normally with the VIP Program, but with the VIP Program discount and it being my first purchase, I was able to score these for a mere $20!) But I will review them against their $54.95 value. They are real leather and the details are nice. There was a little glue around the heel that was barely visible, but there none the less. The zipper feels sturdy and the craftsmanship looks good. I would say these are equal in quality to shoes that cost more than double the original value of these shoes.

Just Fab Ellis Review

I am between three sizes in shoes. It all depends on who makes these shoes. I normally range anywhere from a 7.5 to an 8.5. Booties I tend to go between 8 and 8.5 and usually will buy an 8.5 so I can wear them with thick socks if I want. I would say, I would have been fine with these in an 8. The 8.5's aren't exactly big, but just not my desired fit. But a thick pair of socks instantly takes care of the issue, and since they don't have an 8 and I'm really digging these booties, I plan on keeping them.

Just Fab has other items besides shoes available on their site. But as picky as I am with shoes, I am even pickier about my handbags. And without knowing the quality of the clothes, I am just not up for trying it. I know, I know, I'm the girl who loves me some Target, so you would think I would be all over this. But nope! I am going to keep the Just Fab until I find one more pair of shoes to try. I am going to TRY and see if I like one of their regular $39.95 pairs. That would strictly be for review purposes of course! I think after that, I will most likely cancel. I just have way too many shoes to have 12 more pairs added to the mix on top of what I will most likely buy over the course of the year! (Did I just admit that out loud?!) But who knows, if they have more cute, hard to resist shoes like these booties, I may be in trouble!
