My Unicorn is Feeling a Little Sick

I couldn't resist that title! After seeing Polish Pauper's post I decided to just go ahead an put Unicorn Puke (Clairvoyant) on all my nails. How is it that I love it more every time I wear it? It almost has a metallic quality to it because there are so many flakes in there! I received confirmation that the Unicorn Puke bottle version are due to ship to us no later than October 7th, which means we should have it sometime between the 13th - 25th. With polishes in that quantity being "hazardous materials" for shipping it can be a little slow. I am trying to determine whether I should do pre-sales or if I should just wait for them to arrive and put them on the site.
Someone asked the difference between Unicorn Puke & Clairvoyant. Let me tell you there is absolutely no difference in the polish at all. We are only making the bottles a little different. The Unicorn Puke bottles will have gold screen printing instead of silver and the label will say Unicorn Puke. The Clairvoyant bottles will have the silver screen printing you see in the pictures below. (I actually have a few empty bottles and poured my lab sample in it to see how it would look.)
There will only be 288 of the Unicorn Puke screen printed bottles and I will most likely only sell 250 of them. I will use the others as gifts or giveaways etc. I was thinking of getting a gold sharpie and numbering each of them. What do you guys think? Since these bottles are special we won't include them in any of our sales, they will just retail for $10 until they sell out. Pretty straight forward there. We haven't decided if we are going to put the maximum at 2 or 3 bottles per person. I am leaning towards 2 though.
Anyway that is the information on the puke! I can't believe in just two short weeks I will have these bottles in my hands! EEK!

Blogger Spotlight - PolishPauper!

The blogger spotlight is getting harder and harder to do. There are so many amazing blogs out there featuring Cult Nails! I may have to do more Blogger spotlights!

Today's spotlight is PolishPauper! First off I think Kisten is amazing as a person and she has been hugely supportive of Cult Nails since she heard about us. But I actually had the opportunity to meet her and wish she lived closer to me! She is yet another blogger that I now count as one of my friends. I say that so when I invite myself to go stay with her for a girl's get away - she won't be able to resist. And while I am there I am stealing the Monique Lhullier shoes she got while we were in Vegas! Seriously though - She is wicked awesome (And so isn't her friend Rachel.)

Another thing I love about her post is that I have been wearing Vicious for a few days now and actually grabbed Unicorn Puke (Clairvoyant) to put on my ring finger, and then decided I wanted to wear it on all my fingers instead, but then changed my mind again, so I actually haven't done it yet. But I will be!

Check out the rest of her pics and post at www.polishpauper.com

In the mean time try to stop drooling while you check out these pics! Ok - that's it, going to grab Unicorn Puke and putting it on!

Test Post

We finally made our decision on what to do with our computer situation. We ended up deciding on buying an iMac desktop computer and an iPad so here I am in my car actually dictating my blog post! I'll be uploading pictures from Flickr and see if it works. If this works we may be back in business! Well we'll be back in business after we backed up all the information we lost off the old Mac but we're getting closer.

It's a Brand New Day

The weekend is over, so sad. We actually unplugged(ish) for the weekend and spent it at a friend's "beach house". We were barely an hour and a half away from home and his beach house is as close to the beach as my everyday house is as close to the beach. Actually I think my everyday house is closer. But his house overlooks the water (where the ocean and river meet). Mine does not. I find it so crazy that I needed to get away and my beach wasn't good enough! LOL! Actually my beach is plenty good enough, it's the house that isn't. I mean if I stayed home and tried to unplug, I would be reminded of the boxes of nail polish and polish related items that need to find storage, or the laundry that needs to be done, or the errands that need to be run. So there would be no unwinding. By actually packing up and leaving, I might just actually unwind. Plus it was free! Well with the exception of all the money we spent on food! Yikes!
The view from the living room

Let me just say, I totally did. I checked in on Twitter and Facebook here and there. I Instagram'd a few photos, I even read my email. But  I didn't respond to a single email, which is huge for me! I was able to just chill by the pool (because the beach was overrun by jellyfish) with family and friends. It was beautiful!
The pool I spent most of my time at this weekend.

Of course we got back home yesterday and we went right back into Cult Nails work. We had orders to pack people! So I sat there rolling little polish cigars and Juan packed everyone's orders. So much for cooking dinner, or getting laundry done or anything else! Looks like I'll be spending my week catching up! But oh it was so worth it!
The beach - just look at how clear the water is! Darn jellyfish kept us out of it though!

Well, maybe we'll catch up on housework tomorrow, tonight we need to go look at MAC's and make a decision on what we are replacing my dead Macbook with. We are tossed up between the desktop MAC and another Macbook. I for one prefer the Macbook. But the desktop might have a bit more to offer us. But the desktop needs a desk and a place to put the desk. I hate the look of a computer desk in the house! Maybe a cabinet we can close? I don't know, I guess we will find out tonight! Hope everyone has a great day!

I'm on the Fence

Quick possibly senseless post from my phone. I apologize in advance.

I have to make my final for our winter collection, yet here I sit still mixing! I received a few mixes I requested on Tuesday, plus I have the ones I didn't do for the Fall, but for some reason here I sit.

Here is the latest. I posted a video on my Facebook, so feel free to go there and check it out and let me know what you think.

But for now Here are some pics. So far today I have received 4 compliments on this one and a I have to have that from someone I know. Do I rush this & make it the final color?

Edited to add: I felt like many of you in that it looks just like some of the others out there. It is along the same lines for sure. Once I had it, I thought - wait I already have this and started looking through my stash. I grabbed Not Like the Movies and did a side by side. And it is similar but it is not the same. Not Like the Movies is very in the shimmer, mine is definitely more subtle. When I put them side by side mine looks like a blue silver and OPI's purple.

Left: Not Like the Movie's - Right: Mine

So maybe that is why mine looks frosty? In person it looks metallic not frosty. But now that you guys mention it, it's all I see! LOL! So this color is out. Maybe I should show you guys the other options I'm considering and do a poll? I love that you guys give your honest opinions! You are amazing! Thank you!

Blogger Spotlight - Fishing4Beauty

Today's blogger spotlight is Fishing4Beauty. This was a tough one to pick, since I just released my base and top coat, I wanted to choose one of the bloggers who received an early sample. They received the final product, it was just that our bottles were not ready yet.

I chose Fishing4Beauty because she did a great comp on the base coat and her pics are fabulous. I also like on her sidebar she has a what I am wearing right now on tips and toes. That is so cool - I kind of want to steal that for my blog! :) But I had a tough time deciding since all three reviews I have seen so far have been amazing.

One thing I like about the giveaways, sometimes I do them for just bloggers, other times I do them for everyone. This was an everyone giveaway, and a blogger ended up winning. So it was kind of cool to "see" someone using the prize. Plus now I found a new blog. If this keeps up I will sit here reading blogs all day!

I was thinking of posting her comp review pic on the basecoat, but I think you should go to Fishing4beauty's blog to check it out!

If you haven't taken advantage of our awesome sale, now's your chance! Head over to www.cultnails.com and buy the Cult Nails Get It On/Wicked Fast Combo and any color of your choice (I recommend our new color Vicious.) and enter code: TREATS at check out for $5 off! That means you get Wicked Fast, Get It On and a color for $20!

Cult Nails Get It On & Wicked Fast Are Here!

I am so excited to announce I now have a base coat and top coat! I will try to give you as much details as possible, but I'm running late for work, so not sure how good I'll be able to do.

First up Get It On Perfecting Base Coat. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. There are so many different types of base coats one can make. Everyone's nails are different and have different needs. So which needs did I want to meet? Working with the lab they worked with me on different types of options I could focus on. Did I want something strengthening? Yes! Did I want something moisterizing? Yes! Did I want something for peeling nails? Yes! Did I want it creamy white? Sheer pink? Blue? Clear? Um what difference does it make? Did I want it to be a gripping base coat? Yes! So after several rounds I picked something that would give a little of everything, so this is a one size fits most base coat. I thought since I can only start with one, I want one most everyone can use. It is a stregthening base coat to help those with weak, thin, splitting or peeling nails. The great thing is we were able to do this B3 free and camphor free! This of course was important for me. I choose sheer pink because it helps give your nails a brighter appearance if you decided you wanted to wear it alone. That and I can't stand when I think I grabbed my top coat to freshen up a manicure only to get downstairs and realize I grabbed a base coat! Grrr - I wanted to be able to tell them apart quickly! And of course it has some amazing gripping properties so that your manicure will last longer! I can't say enough about my love of this base coat and I think you will love it too!

Now that the base coat is in order, let's move on to Wicked Fast Top Coat! I can't even tell you how much I love this! Once upon a time I thought I found the perfect top coat, this was years before Cult Nails, and then half way through the bottle it was a thick goopy mess that needed constant thinning. Before long I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of constantly thinning and would just buy a new bottle at the half way mark. Talk about costly! Then I discovered one online and it was the best top coat ever...until they changed the formula. Why they decided to change, I will never know. Soon after I started Cult Nails, I heard they changed the formula back, but it just wasn't the same. Or maybe it's because at that point I already decided I needed my own. This was a labor of love. I can't tell you how many versions of top coat I tried! But now I have Wicked Fast, as it's name states, it dries wicked fast. It dries shiny and doesn't become a goopy mess half way through the bottle! Can we say LOVE? Yes, Yes I can! The top coat is also B3 free, but does contain Camphor. I think you will love this as much as I do. Empty that drawer you have full of top coats, there will only be room for one in your life after you try this one!

I decided to retail my treatments for $8 each. This is completely the opposite direction of every other company. They either charge the same or more for their treatments. I get it, they cost more to make and I was hoping I could retail these for $6 or $7 because you use these with EVERY manicure, so you go through them faster and I wanted it to be cost effective. But in the end this is a low as I could go. But they are inline with other base and top coats and worth every penny if you ask me!

I didn't want to release Get it On and Wicked Fast alone, I wanted to introduce them with a new color. So I bring you Vicious. Named by Twitter follower ! Thanks girl! This was inspired by the purple crayon. It is a perfect purple creme. My daughter says it's the exact color of an eggplant.

Vicious is on my index finger - this picture is taken with a big flash. This is about as bright as this color will get - mostly in sunlight.

This is a truer depiction of Vicious. It was taken with my phone, so the quality of the photo isn't great, but the color accuracy is pretty good. (Clairvoyant/UP is on my forfinger)

Blah, Blah, you say? Get on to the sale you say? OK - here it is! As I love to do with all my products when they are new - I put together a little sale for you! Buy the Get It On/Wicked Fast combo for $15, add any color you want for $10 and use code: TREATS at the checkout for $5 off! So you can buy Get It On, Wicked Fast and a Cult Nails Lacquer for just $20! WAHOO! Since I get paid on Friday, this sale will run through Sunday. Just go to www.shop.cultnails.com and place your order!

All That Glitters...

I was going to try and mix some colors for our Spring 2012 collection this weekend, but for whatever reason grabbed Time Traveler and mixed a few different versions. The original Time Traveler is a straight up slate grey creme. This one has gold shimmer mixed with small traces of pink and blue shimmer. LOVE this! It was by request, so how could I resist? Maybe one day we will have some of these different versions in our line.

I never did move on to mixing for the Spring line. Once I had this I had to try it on 4 nails and swatch it. But then sitting on my desk was these cool little vials of gold flakes I picked up on Amazon and I then I remembered seeing  a picture in August's NailPro magazine where someone did a manicure with black polish and a gold design down the middle of the nail. Hmmm... I figured why not just try something out.

The result was gold flakes going down the middle of my nails. It looks way more amazing in person. It is like going out on a hot date amazing, or girl's night out amazing, or weekend in Vegas amazing... You get the idea. But for me it is going to be going to work all week amazing! I had to finish the manicure and do all my nails. I can't stop staring at my nails. This is friggin amazing! Fall is just days away and it is the perfect mani to welcome Fall.

So what do you think? Are you loving or hating this look?

Weekly Wrap-Up

What a week! Let's see my MAC is dead, I sprained my foot (not my ankle - my foot! - who does that?), the laundry is out of control, um my MAC DIED!!!! My favorite bracelet broke, I'm still one color short for our winter line. It has definitely been a trying week! But through it all it really hasn't been THAT bad. There are some bright spots thrown in there!

OK so the MAC is dead, the bright side is, that it might be repairable or worst case I get a new MAC! Um while that sounds like fun, it certainly doesn't for my wallet! It's just not in the budget right now. Yeah kids, I know you're growing and need new pants, but mommy needs a new MAC! I'm sure the kids will love that one! The downside - all the pictures and videos I took that still need editing for the blog and website are all on there. The bright side, Apple can probably help us retrieve that, we just may need to give up an arm and leg in exchange. So I am left with pics I have previously posted on the blog

The broken MAC has left Juan looking a bit dejected
I'm a color short for the winter collection. I need to pick one more color! When I started this whole Cult Nails thing I mixed a red polish. Just an ordinary red and decided on Quench instead. But my daughter and her friends and any of my friends who see it, want this creamy red. So I am thinking, just maybe this red? But ugh - I don't want a "plain" color. But Unicorn Puke looks great over it. But ugh - winter - red, does it get any more obvious? What to do.... On the bright side, I sent two more mixes to the lab so it is down to one of three colors. Once I finalize the last color, the winter collection will be set to be put into production.

I think this is the pic of the red - if not it looks an awful lot like this one. So we'll just call it good. LOL!
Then I roll my foot and "stretch a ligament". Such a minor thing, so why is it causing so much pain? The downside - Before the MAC died I bought a new pair of heels, boo - I can't wear them for a few weeks now! The bright side - I get to buy flats since I have nothing besides casual sandals and boots for flats and they are not really work or weather appropriate. The down side - my MAC died, so there is no getting new shoes at the moment. Hmm, guess there really is no bright side to rolling my foot. Darn it - I tried!

I think this is the face I made when I rolled my foot

To make it even more interesting, a few links on one of my favorite bracelets broke! Boo! I got this on JewelMint and I am pretty disappointed that the third time I wore it, I noticed broken links. Not good! I haven't emailed them yet, so not sure if there is a bright side yet - but I am hoping so!

After a week like this you would think that I would be looking a bit like this...

But no, not for me! We have 1,799 likes on the page as I write this! At 2,000 likes we are giving 1 of every polish in stock to one lucky person! I love give aways - so I am super excited that it will happen soon! If you don't like us on , I suggest you head there now! I'll be doing the same give away on the  page once we have 2,000 followers there, so if you don't follow us on - what are you waiting for?

Oh and the week ends on the brightest note EVA! My base coat - Cult Nails Get it On and top coat - Cult Nails Wicked Fast are ready early!!! WAHOOO! I should get my shipping confirmation today and I should have them some time next week! I am so excited to be getting them early! I can't wait! WAHOO! All though I wish that I had them today because tonight I am going to a friends Jewelry party and she wants me to have a Cult Nails table. It would be nice to have them for that, but really - a week early! Heck yeah!

So in spite of it all, I am jumping for joy - on the one good foot I have!

And of course it's Friday so the weekend will be here before we know it - so all in all, not a bad week!

How has your week been?

Natural Nails

This last weekend we decided to hit the beach. It seems kind if strange that we hadn't been in about a month when we live a half a mile away. I always said I wouldn't become on of those people. But yup I most definitely am one of those people now! I missed the beach. It seems like all the world's stresses just go out to sea. But just because, we drove about 30 miles away to hit a different beach! Lol!

Love our little beach set up! Makes me want to go right back there now!

I had taken the polish off my nails and simply put my base coat on for protection. I am going to be mixing polishes and I end up testing them on a nail as I create, so I try to keep my nails undone when I am creating.

As I was sitting there, I realized that my nail bed length is different on each nail. This of course means that the free edge on each nail is also a different length to compensate. The end result is perfectly even nails even though nothing actually lines up 100%. that got me wondering, are your nailbeds even? If your not one of the lucky ones and your like me, do you grow your free edge evenly or do you offset your free edge like I do so the the overall nail is even? I'm just being curious.

Here's a shell I found on the beach. I wonder how old it is?

Rachel Zoe Takes On Lipstick - A MAH ZING!

As one of the most-recognized purveyors of fashion trends, super-stylist and designer Rachel Zoe has put her boho-chic style stamp on countless celebrities and captured the collective attention of fashion mavens everywhere. Her ability to whip beauties into fashionable shape has led her to endless collaborations: a smart-budget clothing line with QVC, a trend-forecasting role with Piperlime.com and her own Bravo TV reality show, The Rachel Zoe Project. It was only a matter of time before the “major” style star dipped her Chanel-accessorized hands into beauty—and that she has as the front woman for Exude lipstick. The innovative lip color line boasts nine universally flattering lip creme shades as well as five lip glosses—but it’s the delivery system and formulation that hooked the discerning stylist. “[Exude co-founders] Laurence [Mille] and Diane [Breidenbach] approached me with the product, and I was immediately intrigued because I’m completely obsessed with lipstick and anything that pertains to it,” Zoe laughs. “I was very excited to be shown something that was new and different, and I thought it was really, really cool.”

What’s cool about it? The lip color is housed in a tube containing an innovative crystal-clear applicator shaped like a traditional lipstick bullet; when you twist the bottom, a drop of pigment-rich color is released into a recessed area in the bullet’s tip. If too much product comes out, twist the bottom in the opposite direction and the lip color is sucked back into the applicator. Clean, efficient and oh-so-chic! “I’m a germ freak and I love that you can roll it up and roll it down, and none of it gets messy—it always looks pretty and doesn’t get on anything in your purse!” Zoe says.

Joey Maalouf, Zoe’s right-hand makeup man, views the applicator as being a great beauty tool as well. “The plastic applicator also allows you to move the lipstick around on the lip so that you don’t need a lip liner; you can easily and cleanly fade the color into the lip,” he says.

But for Zoe, what’s inside this magic bullet is what counts. “The system is great, but even if it’s a great concept, the actual product needs to be good—otherwise I’m not getting involved,” Zoe recounts. “But when I put it on, I literally fell in love with it in five minutes flat.” The deeply hydrating, anti-aging formulation blends vitamins C and E, omega-3, omega-6 and goji berry, laying down a somewhat elastic, lip-clinging finish. Despite being creamy and soft, the crèmes wear long and strong. “My biggest thing with lipstick is that it always dries up because I have to talk a lot and my lips get really, really dry,” Zoe laughs. “Exude lip creams feel like I'm wearing lip balm. They stay on. I went through a phase when I wanted matte, matte and matte, and then I realized I constantly looked like I had chapped lips and it was not chic. Not cute at all!”

Zoe had her hand in the design of the packaging, a minimalist and modern white tube that is velvety smooth to the touch. “The feel is so important to me, and of course I want it to look chic,” she says. And, naturally, the stylist has a favorite color of the bunch. “I love Cranberry. I’m wearing it now, and I’ve been wearing it for five hours and it hasn’t worn off…has it?” she demures.

The nine lip crèmes (Bronze, Brown, Coral, Cranberry, Nude, Pink, Plum, Red and Rosy Brown) and five lip glosses (Clear, Brown, Crimson, Dusty Pink and Scarlet Red) will be sold exclusively at exudelipstick.com beginning this month, and will officially launch in October. —Karie L. Frost

The lipstick and glosses retail for $29 each! But if you hurry Lucky Magazine is offering these until 10:59AM today 9/14/2011 only at 50% off! Just go to exudelipstick.com and enter discount code: luckydaily2 at checkout! I assume that code is good through 10:59AM EST, but it doesn't say on it's site. So get a move on if you want to get this deal! :)

Cult Nails In a Trance Video

I am finally getting around to editing the videos I took about a month ago! Each video takes about 2 hours to edit and put together. I still have two more to go for this collection and a few others I created. I am hoping to get to them over the course of this week. In the meantime, this video will give you a better idea of what In a Trance looks like. Once I get them all done, Juan will add them to the Cult Nails website.

That's all I have for you this Tuesday. Hope you have a great day!

Cult Nails - Blogger of the week - Chit Chat Nails!

I decided to add a new feature to my blog. If you blog about Cult Nails make sure you post it on our Facebook page or Twitter page. Each week, I will feature one of my favorite posts.

Chit Chat Nails is a blog written by Marta in Canada. I love her posts, she gives us a bit of insight into who she is. Her Twitter is the same. You can feel her vibe and energy in each and every post. She makes me laugh all the time. I actually think if I lived near her, we would be inseparable. Do you ever read or follow a blog and think, I wish we could hang out? Well that's how I feel about Marta. If you don't follow her blog, you should.

And her pictures are amazing to boot! She not only takes nail pics, but she takes some pretty creative pics of the polish bottles. I have actually contacted her to use her pictures on the Cult Nails site. Now if I just had the time to redo the site!

Here are just a few pictures that she featured of In a Trance on her site last week. I absolutely LOVE this picture! I want to take a picture like this now! I just don't think I can pull it off like her.

She's stunning isn't she? But her nail pics are equally as good.

See what I mean? A blog not to be missed! So go check out Chit Chat Nails, I think you'll enjoy her blog as much as I do!

You asked - I answer

This is a day I will never forget. This is the day that my very first color, My Kind of Cool Aid arrived!

It has taken me two days to get this post together. But I figured I would do a post that answers all the questions I get asked most often about my nails, nail care and polishes. Most of these questions come from people who meet me randomly. Sometimes I think I am going to type up a pretty little FAQ and when people start asking me the questions just hand it to them. See people ask, but they don't realize they are talking to a nail fanatic, so I go in depth with my answer and they tend to tune out about half way through. So this way I won't see you tuning out half way through, so I am putting my questions and answers here instead. This is a pretty long post, so read it when you have time to kill. I'll put some of my favorite random blog pictures on here just because. :) For those of you who are new to my blog think of it as a Q & A and a photo recap in one. And you'll also see how all over the place I am since the pictures and the post have nothing to do with one another! Welcome to my life!

Love this photo. My friend took this of me. Everything in this photo is perfect! I just love it!
Are your nails real?

Yes my nails are 100% real. I did wear acrylics or gels for about 15 years before kicking the habit. I used to go get my nails done on and off at salons. Sometimes I did my own, other times I went to salons. I noticed every time I went to salons, it hurt. Like burning hurt. I would occasionally take off the enhancements and see rings from filing on my nails and they would always be tender and paper thin. I think this speaks more to the quality of the salons I was going to, as I believe there are some really good salons out there, I just wasn’t going to them. I noticed when I did my own nails, I didn’t have this problem, but they would still be somewhat weak. I started educating myself and learned that getting your nails done, didn’t have to hurt. I decided rather than trusting a stranger to do my nails anymore I would do them myself. I got pretty good at it too. Before I knew it my friends wanted me to do their nails. Since I am not licensed, I never really wanted to. I think there is a reason people are licensed, while I am educating myself, it doesn’t mean I know what they may know. (Although I am so into nails, that I THINK I could go in and take a state board exam and pass – or maybe I am just arrogant when it comes to my nail knowledge. But I would like to get licensed one day. I stand behind the professionals in this field, especially those that I am now finding now that I am educated in what to look for. I love getting professional pedicures and meeting women who have pushed through and got their license and take it seriously!) Anyway, eventually I decided I didn’t want to wear enhancements anymore, and if that meant short nails so be it.

I love how this design came out - just seeing it makes me want to do my nails like this!

So how did you stop wearing enhancements? Every time I try I have to go back to them because my nails are so weak.

When I decided to stop wearing enhancement I looked at everything on the market that was created to help repair nails. In the end this is what worked for me. I used Dr. G’s Liquid Diamond Nail Hardener swabs on my nails every day. This liquid soaks into your nails and is not a polish at all. Once that dried I topped my nails with Mavala Nail Shield Strengthener. This is a two part base coat. One has fibers in it and the other smooths it all out. I still use Dr G’s today if I feel my nails are getting a little weak. I don’t really use the Mavala Nail Shield system anymore though. But at the time I was getting tears below the free edge on the sides of my nails, and this was great at preventing that.

I knew it was going to take 6 or more months to grow out the damaged nails, but I wanted long nails NOW! So I was very diligent. It didn’t matter how tired I was, every night I took out my Dr. G’s & Mavala products and reapplied. I did this for about 3 months straight. By this point I was getting some free edge and my nails were getting stronger, but just not strong enough. So I bought Mavala Scientifique. Now I knew at this point that it contained enough formaldehyde that no product in the U.S. could compare. (FDA does not allow the use of that amount of formaldehyde in U.S. made products.) I read up on the dangers of formaldehyde and yup I was scared, but I wanted long nails more. Sad I know. But with this product you are careful and apply it very carefully to the free edge only. So I felt that it was a little safer in that way. And let me tell you that stuff works! My nails were as hard as rocks within seconds! No kidding! I have had my one little bottle for over 3 years now and still have about half the bottle left! I’ll tell you why. I used it for about 3 months once a week as instructed, and then I noticed my nails were strong enough that I didn’t need it anymore. In fact if you keep using it and your nails are already strong, they get so hard they will just snap off. Yikes! I would use it occassionally from there maybe once every few months or so, but not really often at all. I haven’t used it in about 7 or 8 months now since I was testing my base coat, but I just can’t seem to let it go, even though I know it's potentially a dangerous product due to the amount of formaldehyde.

SO – long story short – that is how I got my nails strong enough to let go of enhancements for life.
This was when my hair was much longer than it currently is now and I did a faux bob in my hair. Love this look. My hair is short enough now, where if I curl it I think it will just be this length. I have to try it.

Messing around with some green polishes I created. Wasn't a fan of this in person, but it looks cool in the picture!

How do you take care of your nails?

I don’t have to go to extremes anymore. Now I try to take 2,000 milligrams of Biotin every day. But honestly I mostly take it during the week when I am working, and I almost always forget on the weekends. I do a manicure about once a week and use my base coat, polish and then top coat. I let each coat dry in between and I wrap the ends. I can get my polishes to last about 8 days with no chips and minimal tip wear. I get too antsy and rarely make it past 5 days before changing my polish though. I wear gloves when I clean most of the time and I am constantly putting lotion on my hands throughout the day. I keep lotion at my desk at work, in my purse, in my car, by each sink in the house. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was lotion under my couch cushions! LOL! I put on cuticle oil, balm or cream every night before bed. (Well most every night!) I keep that on my nightstand so I don't forget.

Do you change your polish every day?

OK so I just answered that one. LOL! No I don’t change my polish every day. I typically do change it every 4 or 5 days though, unless it’s the weekend, sometimes I will try 5 or 6 colors on the weekend, if I am creating or more if I am swatching. But sometimes I have to stick it out a full week if I am testing a new color for wear.
Fl blogger meetup! I figure if I post this I will remember to schedule another meetup! I've been so lazy lately and I miss my girls!

How do you get your polish to last – mine always chips?

Most of the time it's all in how you do your manicure. People tell me that they chip within a day or two. OK there are a few things that can be at play here. I always ask if they use a base coat and a top coat? If the answer is no (which when I am asked this by the non fanatics, the answer is almost always no), then that is my first suggestion. Get a base coat for your needs. (Get it On is a great one for someone who has normal to slightly weak nails, issues with peeling and polish staying put. It'll release the last week of Sept.) Let your base coat dry completely before applying polish. A good one like Get It On, will dry pretty quickly. Then put a not to thin or thick coat of polish on your nails and wrap your tips with the polish. Put on a second coat of polish and let it dry for about a minute. Then apply a quality top coat and wrap your tips again. Let this dry and you should be good to go.

This book contains all my Cult Nails secrets
If you use a base and top coat and are still chipping, something else is at play here. It could be your application. Are you applying lots of very thin coats or one very thick coat? You want to apply enough polish to be able to polish your nail in three or four swipes. Don’t worry about patchiness on your first coat, it will smooth and even out on the second coat with a quality product. Improper application can effect the duration of your manicure.

If this still isn’t your issue, then you may be using the wrong base coat. There are basecoats that are nothing more than a sticky base coat to help your polish adhere better. This is perfect for those who don’t need help with their nails. There are base coats that are suitable for most, like Get It On.  There are ones for those who have weak nails, and ones for those who have hard nails,  or peeling nails and just about everything in between. Assess your nails and use the right base coat for you.

Lastly it could be a body chemistry thing. I wear many different brands of polish, but there are two brands I stay FAR away from. Others have great success with these brands, but for some reason, no matter what I do they bubble or chip within the first day or two of me wearing them. They just do not mesh with either my base coat or body chemistry. So regardless of how much I like their colors, I just don’t wear  them. OK not true if I REALLY like their color and can’t find it elsewhere, I will buy it and wear knowing what the outcome will be. Will I ever learn?
A friend of mine took this picture. I remember her telling me "Just relax & be sexy!" I was trying to channel sexy here. It only took about 100 pictures for me to relax! LOL!

This is my purple creme - it is darker in real life. I am wearing it with a purple glitter I made. Another potential color one day.

I can’t grow my nails like you, mine always break - what's your secret?

Well I gave my secret above, but here is another thought. There are a few reasons why some people's nails seem to not grow. Some people live different lifestyles. I know it’s a shock isn’t it? Some people love rock climbing, you can’t have long nails if this is your hobby! OK that is extreme, but the reality is we need to look at our lifestyle and determine what the best length and shape for us is.

Second, when people say this to me and I look at their nails, 9 out of 10 times, their nails and cuticles are a friggin mess! The nails are all different lengths and shapes and their cuticles are ragged or dry. Well um if you didn’t brush your teeth every day, would you expect to have fresh smelling breath and a mouth full of pearly whites? No you wouldn’t! So if you ignore your nails and don’t take care of them, what do you expect? Yes I just compared peoples nails to stinky mouth with bad teeth. LOL!

The key to healthy nails is maintenance, just like your teeth. You need to make a routine of it. When you wash your hands, use lotion. Your hands and nails need to be moisturized regularly. File your nails in a shape that works for you. Don’t just trim them, file them to soften the edges. A glass file is great as it will seal the edges and prevent breaks in the future - check out the Cult Nails glass file, it's the best one ever!! Apply some type of cuticle oil, balm or crème once a day. And at the very least a treatment base coat to help protect your nails. You will see a difference immediately! And remember, your nails are jewels not tools. Stop using your nails to open a can, or to peel a sticker. Treat them nicely and you will be rewarded with nice nails. All this takes hardly any time too! Just a few minutes a day and maybe another 30 minutes more one day a week for a manicure. That’s it. So while you are sitting there enjoying your favorite show on TV, take care of your nails.

These are more Cult Nails related questions - but I get asked these all the time too, so I figured I would add them in. Why not this post just needs to be longer! LOL

Another picture my friend took that night. Man this makes me want to grow my hair not cut it! hmm now I am second guessing this "short" hair.

Can we get more flakies please?

Absolutely! I have about 4 or 5 already created to send to the lab. I was thinking of doing an all Flakie collection, but where we need to add some more basics to the line, I am holding out. So you will be seeing more interesting flakies coming as we grow! Not to mention flakie polishes cost more to make. We paid almost twice as much for Iconic as our other polishes and did not pass that cost on. So it is a bit more difficult for us to do too many flakies at once since we do have costs to consider. But wait until you see what we have coming up! It won’t end with Iconic and Unicorn Puke! I promise you that!
