OPP & More

Hope every one's weekend is off to a great start. Ours definitely is! Well if you count waking up with the sun and cleaning out a closet a great start anyway! But the closet is now clean and the weekend can officially begin! WAHOO!

I wanted to give everyone a quick update as well. I spoke with our filling facility yesterday and our bottles should all be filled as I write this! I can't tell you the frustration level I have been feeling over this. Our polishes should have reached me on the 22nd of April and here it is the 30th and they aren't here yet. But because the bottle printing was delayed we didn't get filled when we were suppose to and had to get squeezed in. FRUSTRATED doesn't even begin to describe how I have been feeling! I have bottles pre-sold that need to get shipped out and the filling is taking forever! I should have all bottles sometime in the next week, but I am still beyond frustrated. Next weekend I am volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and will be busy building a home. (That's a whole other story! I can't wait for that! This home will be an all women built home! YAY!) Which means I will need to cut the nails all the way down as to avoid any issues and I really want the pictures with the new polish with my current nails. At this point, I don't know if it will be able to happen. Grrr! I am sure all you who ordered are feeling the frustration right along with me.

Anyway on to some OPP. This is Butter London Yummy Mummy. I am a huge fan of nude and taupe polishes and have been wanting this one for a while. It is another one I scored at our blogger meetup. (Doesn't it just kill you that you weren't there! HA! Maybe the next one!) Anyway - this one definitely lived up to my expectations. I love everything about it. The color, the shimmer, the formula! I LOVED this one so much I wish I was the one that came up with it! HA!

In the shade you can't really see the shimmer. I love when shimmer polishes look creme sometimes and shimmery other times!

In the sun, the shimmer comes to life!

In other news, if you follow me on , you know that for Easter we made "Tie" dyed eggs. I posted a bunch of Instagram pictures. I went a little nutty. One because I had just downloaded Instagram just days before and was having fun with that and two because this was so friggin cool! We took some silk ties and cut them up and then wrapped eggs in them. From there we wrapped the eggs in muslin and then boiled them for 20 minutes in a pot of water with 3 tablespoons of vinegar. They looked so cute just wrapped in the muslin!

Here is what we ended up with! Cool right?

I know - Easter was a week ago, but I came across these photos while I was uploading pictures and thought I would share anyway. :) Well I am off to the shower and then off to meet up with some family in town. Have a great weekend everyone!

OPP Day 2 - Strange Beautiful Cheap foundation and Verdigris

I have been dying to try Strange Beautiful nail polishes, but with all my money going to Cult Nails, I just haven't been able to. I love how the colors range from basic to unusual and the fact that they are all cremes. I admit, my favorite type of polish is a creme polish! The horror - I know! But it's true. If it is smooth and shiny and a brilliant color, I am in love!

Anyway when I saw this polish up for swap at our recent blogger meetup, I acted all cool, but was really drooling inside! I couldn't wait to try it!!! The down side is that I am extremely particular about the storage of my polish and don't like it stored sideways or upside down. So how do I store this? Yikes! It still bugs me!

Strange Beautiful Cheap foundation and Verdigris

First I tried Cheap Foundation. The formula on this was amazing. Loved it. The color on the other hand, bleh - it did not work for me at all! I have an olive skin tone, so I think this just didn't mesh with that. I bet this would look really cool on someone with pale skin.

In-direct sunlight

I then flipped it over and tried Verdigris. Again amazing formula and the color! Gah! Loved it! The perfect creme polish!

Unfortunately this did nothing to squelch my desire for Strange Beautiful polishes. I wish I could get some more! But not just because I am a competitive sort, I think Cult Nails cremes is on par with Strange Beautiful, so that is a good enough consolation prize for me. Well maybe not, I definitely want more from this brand! HA!

And the Winner is...

Thank you so much to everyone who voted! I do have to say I had to disqualify some votes. Not everyone followed the rules. What can you do? I wanted to make it as fair as possible, which is why I made the rules. Sorry girls. Anyway, there were over 300 votes! WOW! That is awesome. I am so impressed by all the participation. So do you want to know who the winner is?

Entry number 5 - Leslie's Kermit Shawl Manicure! Leslie received a whopping 94 votes! WAY to go Leslie! I will be emailing you about your winnings!

Thanks again to everyone who entered and to everyone who voted. This was a lot of fun! I think we should do more like this in the future!

You Down With OPP? Yeah You Know Me!!!

That's right - I said it! I'm down with OPP - Other People's Polish! Just because I am trying to create a brand, doesn't mean I stopped wearing everyone else's polish! Although admittedly, I do buy less polish than I used to. It just isn't the same, I hate walking out the door wearing someone else's polish to be asked over and over again whose polish am I wearing? I guess the green eyed monster in me comes out! But this week - I don't care - this week it is going to be OPP week around here! Are you ready?

First up is Maybelline Express Finish in Prompt Pearl? I say it in the form of a question, because my google search results for this color have come up empty. I grabbed this one in a swap recently and it reminded me of the new Deborah Lippmann Glitter in the Air. I have seen that polish on other blogs and thought hmmm interesting, but I would never buy it. Then I saw this in the swap basket at our FL blogger meetup and was mesmerized by it. It is so pretty, and I thought, hmmm maybe there is something to the Glitter in the Air, since this is what it made me think of. So I had to grab it. But now I wonder, was this a different polish decanted in here? Since I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere. Anyone know?

This polish is a sheer milky white with a subtle blue/grey tone to it with mainly pink and blue hexagonal glitter. There are some other glitter colors in there too , but not much. I couldn't seem to get this one to apply evenly. I think if I put a milky base coat and was more careful with my application, it would have come out better. I was also disappointed that the glitter didn't seem to want to come out of the bottle. I was in a bit of a hurry. I ended up just taking it off and wearing something else, since I didn't have time to mess with this one. I wonder how Deborah Lippmann's compares application wise?
In the bottle this looked awesome. If I could get better application and more glitter on my nails, I think this one would be pretty cool. I plan on trying it again using the milky base coat.

So what do you think about this concept? Are you loving the idea? Would you make any changes to it? Have you tried this one or another similar one? Can't wait to hear what you think!

By the way I will post the Gaga inspired manicure winner later tonight. I have tallied all the votes up until 10:00PM Sunday night and then went to bed. I will tally the last two hours of votes and then post the winner. Since I work all day, it won't be until some time later tonight.

Look What I Got!!!!

So much for the no buying gifts this year! Kat's friend's mom, Panther is a local artist. She started "dabbling" into jewelry making last year and it is taking off. Her inspiration is sunken treasures. So each piece has an inspired sunken treasure look. When I saw Panther's artwork back in November, I practically begged John to buy me a piece. I was instantly in love! You all know I love accessories as much as I love polish! But at $200 for a bracelet, it was out of the question. :( I was so bummed. Later I found out that Pirates of the Caribbean asked her to send some pieces in for review for the next movie. Dang, now I was totally jealous that Hollywood was going to take her pieces and that $200 bracelet would become a $500 bracelet and I would NEVER get one.

So when John gave me this huge  box...

the last thing I expected was a piece of jewelery, much less Panther's jewelery! But AHHH check it out! It is huge and OK some people might find it a bit gaudy - but the whole sunken treasure vibe! LOVE!

Taken with the Instagram app

John won't tell me how much it cost, he just said: "Don't ask, it was more than the bracelet you wanted though". But he did tell me she does lay-aways now! Oh he so should not have told me that! I plan on putting a bracelet on lay-away for my birthday now! (It's in August and she does up to 90 day lay-aways. PERFECT!)

John also told me that Panther told him she had been contacted by Gwen Stefani for a collection for LAMB and by Versace as well! WOW! Um can I have Gwen's address so I can send her some Cult Nails please? LOL! But seriously, can I?

Anyway if you want to check out some more of Panther's stuff, here's her website: http://www.panthersgallery.com/propper.htm

Happy Anniversary to me! YAY! I told you all John was the best! But now all I got him was a public letter! Dang it!

16 Years Ago Today...

I married a RockStar. Well he should be a RockStar, but he hasn't been discovered yet! :)
I am not a sentimental person. I don't like hugs (although I think that is starting to change), I am not a fan of emotional beings, and I can be somewhat aloof. Growing up I didn't have that happy touchy feely type family. We knew we loved each other, there was no reason to express it. I don't do cards and write out how I am feeling. It just isn't who I am. First things first, it's time to come clean, Juan's real name is John. No more faking his name. Well actually we do call him Juan in the house, but that's another story for another time. With all our money going to polish and cheerleading and chorus and cheerleading and did I mention cheerleading, we are passing on anniversary gifts this year. So this is my gift to John, an open love letter. (Probably one of just a handful he will ever receive from me, since this just does not come natural to me.)

John,

I remember seeing you running around in our Poland Spring training wearing your white shoes. I was amazed by the energy level of that guy. But I didn't give it much thought. Then you started showing up at my house to hang around my brother and the two of you became best friends. I thought, really that crazy energetic guy and my mellow brother? How does that work? Then you asked me on a date. I didn't know what to think. Why would this guy who clearly has nothing in common with me ask me out? But my brother convinced me to go on just one date with you, so I said yes. Novemeber 6th 1993 will forever be burned in my head. I remember wearing my most ghetto fabulous outfit: matching nikes to my shirt, baggy jeans, baggy jacket, but a cute fitted top and my large bamboo earrings and Revlon Black Cherry lipstick. I made a headband out of my extremely dark brown hair and left the rest cascading down. Man I thought I looked hot! HA! Then in you walked in with your preppy button down flannel (with a hood on it no less, cause you were cool like that) and plain jeans and your hair blow dried back and again I thought, wow, he is sooo not like the other guys who ask me out, this should be an interesting night, we'll have nothing in common.

We went out with my brother and his girlfriend at the time. Boy were you a fancy guy - you took me to Taco Bell and to see A Nightmare Before Christmas. There was no trying to impress me! But boy did you make me laugh. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard up until that moment. And your eyes sparkled in a way I had never seen before. Your smile lite the room. And you were smart too and interlaced your intelligence with your humor. Now I got why everyone at work was so drawn to you. Then as we were sitting there in the movie theater and I kept having flashes of our life together. I never felt anything like it. I thought I was crazy since I was only 18. But I made you take that picture in the photo booth that night as a way to mark our first date. I wonder what happened to that picture? The gangsta Puerto Rican girl with the preppy white boy? (We need to look for it!)

Who knew that one date would change the rest of our lives? A year an a half later we were walking down the aisle and saying I do. It hasn't always been easy living with me, this I know. But you have made me into such an amazing women. I am who I am today because of you. You taught me what it is to be loved. You forced me into countless hugs, and countless talks about my feelings and you pushed me to make my dreams come true. You never doubt me, you are always my biggest cheerleader. Everything I am is because of you. Well maybe not everything. I didn't get my fashion sense and fabulous looks from you, I have my parents to thank for those! And I guess so do you! HA!

You are an amazing father. I have yet to meet another man who is so involved in his kids lives. I remember when the girls were little and you would sit there and put ponytails and braids in their hair. They may have not been the best hairdo's, but you never looked sexier to me. The time you take with the girls is something that is so inspiring to me. As busy as our lives are, you always make the time to make our daughters feel as special and important as you make me feel. You are so "boss", that even the girls friends think your the coolest dad around!

16 years has passed, and even though I didn't think it could be possible, I love you more with each passing year. You are my rockstar, my soulmate, the air that keeps me alive. I look forward to ending each day in your arms (at least until you start snoring anyway). Thank you for loving me and being the man you are. Your parents did a darn good job, it's like they made you just for me! Happy Anniversary babe! I love you Cheesecake!

Your one and only,

Sugarlips ;)

Decisions, Decisions...

I tweeted a very nondescript sentence about making a decision recently, and have actually received a few emails from some concerned followers asking if everything was OK. So I am breaking my own rule about not talking about work and I am going to fill you all in.

First I have to say I am very fortunate. There are a lot of people out there struggling to find a job right now and my decision was based on choosing between two jobs. So this is in no way meant to sound like a complaint, just a walk through making a difficult decision. Maybe it'll help one of you out in a similar situation - who knows.

I have a great job with a great company who knows I am trying to build my own brand - Cult Nails. They are very supportive of me and what I am trying to do. But another company came along and started courting me. I was not looking for another job, this job found me. But because it is always nice to be wanted, I met with the company. The offer they presented was a great opportunity for my career and an increase in pay and an opportunity for an even bigger increase in the immediate future. Starting Cult Nails has tied up a lot of our money, the kids activities cost a lot of money ($1,000 this week alone!*faints*). So I started to consider this other job. Even though I am happy where I'm at, the job and the money this other one offered... how could I not consider it. I then started comparing the obvious things like benefits. Where I am at is better, but I was thinking again financially and resume building wise, this would be the right decision.

I decided I needed to take the new job. I was sick over it. Then I started thinking of some of the not so obvious things. While the money would be great, I still make a decent living. I can still afford to follow my dream of making Cult Nails a reality. I can still let me kids participate in school activities where the parents are now shouldering the expense due to budget cuts in the schools. Maybe my kids can't participate in the multiple activities like other kids seem to do, but they can still participate. When my kids want new clothes or shoes, I can go buy it. We are doing pretty alright. We are very fortunate.

Looking into the decision even further, I work for a company where we had to take pay cuts in 2009. When we turned things around and had a good 2010, our CEO not only gave us our salaries back, but the salaries we lost in 2009! What CEO does that? NONE! Mine did - for everyone affected! When an employee is ill or needs to be out to care for family, our team bands together and our CEO & VP's are the first on the list to donate their leave to cover the employee so the employee doesn't go without their pay. When I have a kid who falls off a skate board and I need to take off to bring her to the doctor, I can go with no hesitation or worry about my job. This is what truly makes the company I work for great. I couldn't think of leaving these people or this team. The people are work with are amazing, hardworking individuals. I turned the other job down. I instantly felt better. Staying where I am at is exactly where I want to be. To know this - to REALLY KNOW that I am choosing to stay where I am because I love it here, now that is refreshing! I finally realize what Juan has been telling me for years, it's not about the money, having a job you are happy at means more. And you know what, he's right! The quality of life my company can offer me, means more than the money and title the other one could have! There's no looking back, just moving forward with this company!

So that was my big decision this week. But I had another decision I needed to make thrown in the middle of all that. My nails were getting WAY to long. I loved the pointy shape, but that shape needed that length. And they are growing so fast right now. I was having trouble typing and texting. I was poking everything in sight. I was missing the shorter nails that I could wear wilder colors with. I mean I could have worn them, but they were REALLY standing out! So I decided to chop them off! Want to see my new nails?

*Edited to add - I couldn't figure out why the pics were so blurry. I realized I had a finger print on my camera lense. I took new pics last night and figured I would add them to this post later, totally forgetting I already scheduled this post! OOPS! So you get the blurry pics for now. sorry!*

You have to ignore my dry hands! They have been pretty dry these last few days. I am drinking tons of water and applying lotion like crazy. Hopefully they come back to health soon. Plus the camera is distorting the nail shape. Ugh! They are not that misaligned in person! So anyway, back to my old length. The color is a red I created a while ago. It is a bright red with some pink and orange undertones. I took the last picture with a flash so you could see the undertones. So pretty. Maybe one day this will become part of the Cult Nails family.

So there you have it, the two decisions I made this week. I am quite happy with both of them. Well, actually I kind of miss the talons...just a little.

A Day at the Races Update

We found out last night that our collection is still at the filling facility. They are backed up with the big demand in the polish world with keeping up with orders and are running a little behind. We are told that the collection should be sent out this week and are waiting on more information as to the exact date. I was not excited to hear about the delay, but I wanted to let you all know where it stands. As soon as I have more information I will let you know. At least the delay will only delay everything by about a week at most. I apologize if this causes anyone who pre-ordered any issues. Feel free to email me if you have any concerns regarding your order or the delay.

I have also been receiving some questions on the pre-order. We ran the pre-order through April 15th only. Well actually since I got sick, John was stuck being mom and dad and Cult Nails all on his own and didn't take it down from the sight until the 17th. I posted initially that it would only run until the 15th, but there were a few days added in. The reason we cut it off a week before we anticipated was so that we could get everything ready. Shipping labels, envelopes, boxes etc... The goal is that once the polishes arrive everything will be ready and we will get everything packaged and sent out the same day we receive it. Both Juan and I are taking the 22nd off in anticipation of receiving the order. (Which also just so happens to be our 16th wedding anniversary - yes we got married when we were mere children! ha!) but now that there is a delay it looks like I may have to take another day off in the coming week instead. We are still planning on taking the 22nd off and just enjoying the day at the beach or something equally cheap for our anniversary. Not the way I intended the day - but at least it's still a day off work.

Oh wait, I got off track, as I was saying - so that is why the pre-sale is gone. We did not sell out just yet. But we are getting really close - which is exciting! We still have My Kind of Cool Aid, Living Water and Quench, so it is amazing to me that this second collection is going faster! Depending on the color we have anywhere from 175 - 200 of each color left! AMAZING!!! We are almost reaching the point where the next collection will be completely funded from the sales of this collection! WOW! That would be amazing to not have to put more "personal" money into the next collection! I can't imagine that day! Maybe one day I'll even start making money off this business and be able to work for just me? Can you imagine that? I can't wait for that day to come!!! So exciting! You guys are really helping make my dreams a reality! I hope you are all enjoying the ride as much as I am!

OK enough with this long post with no pictures! Yuck! Look back in a few hours for the Lady Gaga inspired manicures!

StarStruck

By now you all know that I went to see Lady Gaga with some friends on Friday night. We had an awesome time. Although some things went a little hangover after the concert, but we won't be talking about that! I spent the rest of the weekend recovering and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and a new work week was about to begin. So needless to say I didn't get some of my blog goals done this weekend. :(

I received some great entries for the Lady Gaga inspired nails contest - but since I gave everyone until Sunday to send them in, so since I am writing this on Sunday night, I will post those pictures here tomorrow! That gives any last minute entries a chance to get in too! Lucky you if your a procrastinator!

In the meantime here are some pictures from Friday night

Of course I had to show my nails first. Except it took a few tries before I was satisfied. I took some silver powder with holo glitter to make a polish. I then faded it down and in gradient style just made the silver more intense on the free edge of the nail. I then added some bling. This was so holo glitter filled - unfortunately the camera seems to dull that.

Then I remembered the shoes I planned on wearing are gold glitter shoes. Darn it! So I did the same with gold holo glitter. I actually liked this look better. I can't begin to describe how extreme the rainbow was on these. Not in a holo polish kind of way - but with each piece being it's own holo gloriousness! I had to use acetone to remove the silver, so please excuse the really dry looking hands! yuck!

Then I put m hands up to my shoes and realized this was way to gold for the shoes.

Since they were too gold, I layered a thin layer of silver over the gold and now I think I got them perfect! This blurry shot shoes some of the glitter goodness!

PERFECT! Oh and check out the shoes! I LOVE them!

This is the only picture I have of my whole outfit! Boo! But it was a black romper if anyone cares. Here I am with my guys. They are all gay, sorry girls.

Check out these Little Monsters! Wow they really got into it! (my friend Ana sucks at taking pictures - all the ones she took came out blurry! Ha!)

This is at the Sky Bar at the Amway arena in Orlando

Here I am with my girl Ana - the bad photographer, but one of my best friends! I love her, she is one of the nicest people I know. Just look at that smile! LOVE HER!

Ali & Me mean muggin' - Ana told me to showcase my Gaga nails for the pic. HA!

Another view of the Sky Bar. Too bad this bar is in the arena and you can only go there during an event and you have to have tickets to the event to go here. It was a pretty cool bar.

Here we are posing with another Little Monster. There were so many - I tried to get pics of them all. Unfortunately some didn't come out.

Loved these guys! They were sitting right in front of us. Loving the Madonna influence!

Of course I had to try to get a picture of Lady Gaga's nails! No our seats were not this good, I took this off the monitor there so I could try to get a good shot. But we did have pretty good seats none the less. Her nails were seriously long!

After the concert we hit this bar called Mr Sisters in Orlando. It is an old car garage converted into a bar.

I had to take this picture to show you the craziness that is this bar. There are guys and girls dancing on the bar in their underwear. I haven't been to a gay bar in many years, but this one takes the cake. I'm not a huge fan of strippers, so thankfully this was more club than dancers. Actually after the first few minutes, I didn't even notice the dancers anymore.

I have over 200 pictures from Friday night and a few videos of the concert, so it was tough to pick just a few. Hope you all liked the pics, and look for the Lady Gaga inspired contest pics to be posted tomorrow.
